Cron automation

The Linux operating system includes a utility called "cron" which makes it possible to set activities to happen at certain intervals of time. For example, say you wanted to make copies of important files by saving them as a .bak in your directory every day at 3 AM, this can be easily done. Other examples:

• Erase a big log file every few hours.
• Delete all files in a directory every month
• Run any Perl/CGI/PHP program at a given time
